About TGS

At the Glanvilles Stud, a passion for breeding winners drives everything we do. Doug and Lucy started the breeding operation in 2008 with their very first foal FOXES BRIDGE becoming a dual chase winner. Since then much success with winners on the track has followed with the stud’s first Grade 1 winner coming in 2017 courtesy of SAM SPINNER who went on to be rated 164 over both hurdles and fences. The stud’s first Cheltenham Festival winner came in the shape of HONEYSUCKLE, who needs no introduction, and who won four times at the Cheltenham Festival, racking up well over a million pounds in prize money during her career with a total of fourteen Grade 1 successes . Some of the studs most recent graded success came from SOUL ICON, a third generation of stud bred horses, when winning the Grade 2 Desert Orchid chase at Kempton. The Stud has also had many winners on the flat, both turf and all weather, with a first Royal Ascot runner in SEPARATE in 2019.

Doug, Lucy and the staff also enjoying seeing many different client’s horses go on to have great success on the track whether it is mares that have just come in to foal down or more permanent boarders.

The Stud was originally an organic diary farm with beautiful mature hedges and trees. The farm has been adapted using post and rail fencing to provide 80 acres of safe paddocks. The Stud boasts facilities such as an all weather walker which all the permanent broodmares use during the winter as studies have shown that mares kept active during gestation will produce better offspring. There is also a range of all weather turnout areas for when conditions get particularly testing.

All foaling boxes have cameras that are monitored all night as each mare gets close to foal, meaning someone will be on hand immediately when a mare starts showing signs of foaling helping ensure a smooth delivery and meaning that any foaling difficulties can be addressed as early as possible giving every mare and foal the best chance should complications arise.

We are lucky enough to have an onsite veterinary practice who we work closely with daily, tracking mares in and out of season for covering enabling us to have a high success rate of getting mares in foal, as well as monitoring foals closely from the day they are born to ensure optimal health in their early life.
